AL Scores: Orioles Win Opener, Darvish Near Perfect, Tribe Beats Dickey

Baseball newsThe Tampa Bay Rays took a 3-2 lead into the seventh inning,  and reliever Jake McGee was within one out of getting out of the inning when Adam Jones smoked a two run go-ahead double on a 0-2 pitchto left-center field.  Chris Davis finished off the five-run rally with a three run homer in the Baltimore Orioles beat Tampa Bay 7-4.

Reigning Cy Young winner David Price  worked through six innings and 100 pitches giving up a two run homer in the first inning to Orioles catcher Matt WietersJason Hammel (1-0) allowed three runs and three hits in six innings. Jim Johnson pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.  Desmond Jennings and Ben Zobrist  had two hits each for Tampa Bay. Zobrist  hit his first home run of the season in the fourth inning.

Texas 7 Houston 0,  Yu Darvish came within one out of pitching the 24th perfect game in major league history and the Texas Rangers settled for a two hit shutout when over the Houston Astros. Cleveland 4 Toronto 1,  Justin Masterson outpitched R.A. Dickey  and the Cleveland Indians beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 in Toronto. Masterson (1-0) allowed one run and three hits in six innings, ending his night by retiring 11 straight batters. The right-hander walked four and struck out five. Asdrubal Cabrera  had a two run home run in the fifth inning to give Cleveland a three-run cushion.
