AL Scores: Davis Powers O’s, Guthrie K’s 9, Twins Pile On Late

Orioles newsChris Davis went 7 of 11 with three homers, three doubles and a major league-leading 11 RBIs in helping the Orioles win two of three games in the season-opening series against Tampa Bay and powered Baltimore to a 6-3 victory in an afternoon contest at Tropicana Field.

Miguel Gonzalez (1-0) allowed two runs and four hits over 6 1/3 innings.  Roberto Hernandez  pitched into the seventh for Tampa Bay allowing four earned runs and striking out seven.

Tampa Bay pitching allowed 20 runs during the  series.  The Orioles may have lost second baseman Brian Roberts  who injured his hamstring trying to steal second base in the ninth inning.

 Kansas City 3 – Chicago 1  Jeremy Guthrie struck out nine Chicago White Sox allowing just one run in six innings of work to beat Chicago 3-1. “Guthrie was phenomenal today,” Royals manager Ned Yost said. “He really executed his pitches, changing speeds, moving the ball in and out. Really did a nice job keeping them off balance.”  The Royals scored three runs in the fifth and the bullpen held on for the victory.  Greg Holland earn the save for Kansas City.  Gavin Floyd pitched six innings for Chicago allowing two earned runs while striking out five.

 Minnesota 8-Detroit 2  The Minnesota Twins scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning  to bury the Detroit Tigers 8-2.  Josh Willingham hit two home runs for the Twins.  Trevor Plouffe  added a solo shot in the fourth inning.Brayayn Villareal  Was pummeled in the eighth inning for five runs.

 Oakland 8- Seattle 2 – Josh Reddick and Yoenis Cespedes each hit two-run home runs  to power the Oakland athletics over the Seattle Mariners.Michael Morse Smacks Fourth HR of 2013″ href=”http://baseballnewssource.com/seattle-mariners/seattle-mariners-michael-morse-smacks-fourth-hr-of-2013/18745/”> Michael Morse homered for the third straight day and joined Ken Griffey Jr. in 1997 as the only Mariners to homer four times in the first four games.

 Toronto 10-Cleveland 8 –  J.P. Arencibia hit two solo homers, Edwin Encarnacion added a three-run shot and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Cleveland Indians 10-8.  Jose Bautista and Colby Rasmus connected for the Blue Jays. Mark Buerhrle  Making his first start since being traded from Miami  allowed six runs in 5 1/3 innings of work.

 New York 4-Boston 2
