AL Recaps – Jeremy Hellickson Outpitches Zack Greinke to Spoil Angels Debut

Jeremy Hellickson NewsANAHIEM – Zack Greinke pitched well in his debut for the Los Angeles Angels. Jeremy Hellickson and pitched better for the Tampa Bay Rays. And while most of the news will be about Greinke, you cannot underestimate what Hellickson was able to do, under extreme conditions.

“I just had a little stomach ache and got a little lightheaded there toward the end,” he said. “It was hot today, and that was probably the reason. I felt good enough to go out there. I took some stuff before the game, but it kind of caught up with me those last few innings.

I felt I had to give us five or six to save the bullpen. My arm felt good, and that’s all I really needed.”

Hellickson won  the game despite throwing up several times. He improved his record to 6-6 and lowered his ERA to 3.23 .

Matt Joyce singled home Sam Fuld in the sixth inning for the game’s first run. Carlos Pena would score on a Greinke wild pitch in the seventh.

Fernando Rodney recorded his second save of the weekend, getting Albert Pujols to ground into a double play with the bases loaded in the ninth-inning.

Greinke made 111 pitches in seven innings of work, striking out eight, walking one and giving up two runs.
