Cain pitched the 22nd perfect game in major league baseball history and the first for the Giants organization. He struck out 14 Houston Astros in route to a 10-0 victory. Cain needed hundred and 125 pitches to complete the gem.

He was backed by two outstanding defensive plays by outfielders Melky Cabrera and Gregor Blanco. it was the third no-hitter in baseball in June, and the fifth no-hitter of the season. Meanwhile the Giants pounded out 15 hits and scoring 10 runs.  Cabrera and Blanco both homered.

A sellout crowd of 42,298 watched Cain take his place in baseball history. Catcher Buster Posey rushed the mound as Cain raised his arm. “I can’t thank Buster enough,” Cain said. “I didn’t even question once what he was calling.”
