Roy Halladay Will Undergo Surgery On Pitching Shoulder

Phillies News Philadelphia Phillies veteran right-hander Roy Halladay told reporters that he will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his  right shoulder to remove a bone spur and repair a partially torn rotator cuff and a freed labrum. Halladay said he expects to be out at least three months.

Halladay was examined in Los Angeles by orthopedist Neal ElAttrache.  Halladay seems optimistic about the possibility of returning to pitch again this season.

“[Doctors said the surgery] could turn the clock back two or three years for me,” said Halladay. “I feel like it’s a lot better than some things I anticipated … I don’t feel as lost as before. I feel like there are some answers there.”

Halladay  had pitched  to a 8.65 ERA , a 1.46 WHIP and generally struggled throughout the spring. Halladay’s career record is 201-104 with a 3.37 ERA. Tyler Cloyd will be recalled from Triple-A and start in Halladay’s place on Friday.

Fantasy Play:  Halladay seemed relieved  to find out there was something wrong with his shoulder.  Fantasy owners should look elsewhere for pitching as the prospects of pitching again this season effectively are limited.
