Yankees Lose Sabathia Until After The All-Star Break

CC Sabathia New York YankeesNEW YORK – CC Sabathia was placed on the disabled list with a Grade 1 strain in his left leg.

Sabathia is expected to miss two starts. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that he does not expect Sabathia back until after the All-Star break.

Sabathia said he felt the pain during his start Sunday night against the New York Mets. Sabathia was said to resist the move to the DL.

Freddy Garcia will start in place of Sabathia on Friday, and the Yankees are expected to make a corresponding move to replace Sabathia.

The Yankees still have a formidable pitching staff with, pitching staff with Andy Pettitte, Hiroki Kuroda, Phil Hughes and Ivan Nova, however, as always have been rumored to be interested in adding starting pitching before the trade deadline.

MLBtraderumors.com reports that the Yankees may have interest in Francisco Liriano, Matt Garza and Zack Greinke.

UPDATE-Andy Pettitte was removed from his start against the Cleveland Indians today with an injury.
