Reid Brignac acquired By Yankees from Colorado Rockies

New York Yankees news. The New York Yankees acquired utility infielder Reid Brignac  from the Colorado Rockies for cash.  originally drafted by Tampa Bay in the second round of the 2004 draft. Brignac was traded to Colorado in February. Brignac hit .250 with one home run and six RBI  with the Rockies.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman feels the team is upgrading with Brignac. Brignac, “is a very good fielder,” Cashman said, “and gives us a better platoon situation because all of the left side of the infield bats righthanded.”

Brignac  is the 36th player used by the Yankees this season and 13th to play infield.  The Yankees are still waiting for the return of Mark Teixeira, Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez.

New York designated shortstop Alberto Gonzalez for assignment to make room for Brignac on the 40-man roster.
