New York Yankees Season Not Over Yet

When the trade deadline came, management and ownership’s deals gave them young players and future prospects and the New York Yankees began to look to the future. Next, to go was Alex Rodriguez.

However, instead of looking to next season, the young Yankees caught fire and are now in the playoff race for an American League wildcard spot.

Mark Teixeira said the players knew the situation during the deadline but that did not stop the players from wanting to win and make the playoffs. The Yankees continued their hot streak on Friday with a 14-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

The veteran Teixeira said he and his teammates knew a transition was taking place, but none of them gave up on the season. He added that everyone know they still had an obligation to play each game and try to win every one.

One of the young players to stand out amongst others has been Gary Sanchez. The New York catcher launched another home run on Friday and Luis Cessa had another strong start on the mound pushing the Yankees record since August 1, the trade deadline, to 14-9.

However, the Yankees road to the postseason is not without its roadblocks. The Yankees sit 3 ½ games behind Baltimore for the second and final wildcard spot with another 35 games on the schedule.

Nevertheless, getting to there is not such an easy task. There are a number of teams between the Yanks and the Orioles just as there are three teams the Orioles, Blue Jays and the Red Sox 5 ½ games between the Yankees and the lead in the AL East.

Add to that a daunting figure of 22 of the final 35 games the Yankees face are against the Orioles, Blue Jays and Red Sox, getting hot and winning series against those teams will help the Yankees move up the ladder, while losing them just adds to their problems.

New York currently is doing just that having won 5 of its last 7 games overall.

When Carlos Beltran was traded by the Yankees, they were averaging just over 4 runs a game. Since then, the Yankees are averaging 5.2 per game after Friday’s outburst of 14 runs on 18 hits.

When New York traded closer Aroldis Chapman and set up man Andrew Miller who helped them go 35-3 when leading going into the seventh inning, they went 13-1 in the same situations utilizing Dellin Betances.

The road to the postseason might be uphill but the new look Yankees are giving all they have to get there.
