Windy City Rules Majors League Baseball Early

Chicago is the capital of Major Baseball thus far early in the season. After just six weeks of the regular season, both the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox are dominating baseball

The latest power rankings have been released by different baseball writers and most have the Cubs as the unanimous choice at No. 1 with the White Sox a close No. 2.

It is early, but Chicago has a great deal to brag about, as its two teams boast the two biggest division leads in baseball. While the other franchise known as the Sox, those that play at Fenway Park in Boston have turned their recent explosion offensively led by David Ortiz to reach the No. 3 spot in the power rankings.

Amongst the other teams that have made moves this past week, the Los Angeles Dodgers moved up seven spots to No. 9 from No. 16, while the season’s biggest surprise the Philadelphia Phillies have moved into the top half of the power rankings.

Chicago Cubs

The Cubs have the best record in baseball at 27-9. Following their series with Pittsburgh, Chicago has a combined 7-2 record against NL Central rivals the Pirates and St. Louis.

Chicago White Sox

The White Sox are 24-14 and have ace Chris Sale now sitting at 8-0 following his complete game victory last Friday over the Yankees. Just three pitchers have a better ERA than the 1.67 of Sale, including Jose Quintana a teammate.

Boston Red Sox

Boston is also 24-14 on the season and move up from No. 5 to No. 3. Boston leads the majors with a .297 team batting average, 17 points ahead of second place Colorado. The team scored 11 runs or more in four straight games and has scored close to six runs a game after last season averaging 4.6.

Washington Nationals

The Nationals are 23-15 on the season and have players Bryce Harper and Daniel Murphy No. 1 and No. 3 respectively in the National League in OPS. Harper is being pitched around as he walked 17 times in 23 games during April but an amazing 24 times in just his first 14 games of May.

That puts Harper on a pace of 175 walks and just Barry Bonds has more walks in one season than that.

Baltimore Orioles

The Orioles are 23-13 on the season. Baltimore’s starting rotation was a big concern starting the season but thus far is pitching well. Starters for the Orioles have been middle of the pack for strikeouts, walks and groundballs for nine innings.
