White Sox Sign Jeff Keppinger – Three-Years $12 Million

White Sox News

Keppinger was a model of consistency for Tampa Bay in 2012

Jeff Keppinger parlayed one season with the Tampa Bay Rays in which he hit .325/.367/.439 with nine home runs and 40 RBI into a three-year deal worth $12 million with the Chicago White Sox.

Keppinger had become a hot commodity with the free-agent market thin for infielders.

Keppinger played multiple positions for Tampa Bay last year including third-base, second base,  first base, and DH. The White Sox have signed Jake Peavy and picked up the option for Gavin Floyd so far this off-season.

The New York Yankees were said to be interested in Keppinger but were unwilling to offer a three-year deal. The White Sox jumped in the agreement was made.

Keppinger had expressed interest in returning to Tampa Bay, and the feeling was mutual from the Rays organization. Once the market began to heat up for his services it became apparent that the Rays were no longer going to be a part of his future.

Every team needs a player or two like Keppinger on their roster, and he will be missed in Tampa Bay.
