CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs used four home runs to power their way past the San Diego Padres and snap a season-long 12 game losing streak, 11-7. Cubs left
fielder Alfonso Soriano led the Cubs with a go-ahead two-run home run in the sixth inning. Soriano finished the day with three hits. Darwin Barney, Ian Stewart and
Starlin Castro also homered for the Cubs.
Cubs manager Dale Sveum admitted the victory wasn’t just one in a 162-game season. “Let’s not kid yourself. You lose 12 in a row and you finally win … it’s a big relief
for all them guys,” Sveum said. “It’s tough. It shows you sometimes how tough it is to win a Major League Baseball game. To lose 12 in a row — hopefully something like
that gets everything going.”
Wrigley Field lived up to its reputation. The wind on Monday afternoon was blowing out toward center field at 24 mph and gusts up to 35 mph. the matchup featured two
of Maj. league baseball’s worst teams. San Diego came to Chicago scoreless in their last 26 innings.

. The Rockies who five-run first inning included Jordan Pacheco’s RBI triple as well as a two run shot by Wilin Rosario, Troy Tulowitzki added an RBI double in the first
and led off the fifth with his eighth home run of the season and his fifth in the last seven games. pitching has failed the Rockies as of late, but a strong offensive
performance was able to overcome so-so pitching today. Astros starter Wandy Rodriguez struggled most of the day giving up 10 hits and seven runs for earned in five
innings.
DENVER – The Rockies won the opener 9-7 and the nightcap 7-6 when Dexter Fowler capped his big day, went 7 for 9 and reached base nine times, with a game-
ending triple off Brett Myers with one out in the 10th inning.
PITTSBURGH – James McDonald pitched the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 4-1 victory against the Cincinnati Reds. McDonald finished the game retiring the last 12 batters
he faced. McDonald through 103 pitches in eight innings of work and only allowed five hits, striking out five and walking just one. Joel Hanrahan recorded his 12th save
of the season to preserve the win.
ATLANTA – an announced crowd of 42,426 was at Turner Field to see the St. Louis Cardinals win a game against the Atlanta Braves, 8-2 . It was the first victory for
the Cardinals against the Braves this season. Cardinals starter Lance Lynn improved his record to 8-1 this season with seven strong innings, in which he gave up two
earned runs and struck out eight. He allowed one base on balls. the Cardinals pounded out 14 hits including six against Atlanta Braves starter Tommy Hanson. Rafael
Furcal and Daniel Descalso homered for the Cardinals. the Braves have now lost eight games in a row.
MIAMI – Carlos Zambrano pitched six- plus innings allowing three runs with five strikeouts to help the Marlins improved their record in May to 19-8. The Marlins tied a
team record for victories in any month. Manager Ozzie Guillen was complementary of his team’s effort in May. “I think the way we started, a lot of people don’t believe
in what we can do,” manager Ozzie Guillen said, noting the team’s 8-14 April. “The talent is there. This team, little by little, is starting to put stuff together. Little by little,
they believe they can compete in this game.” Giancarlo Stanton launched his 12th home run, a two-run homer and Logan Morrison added a solo shot to back the effort
by Zambrano.
NEW YORK – Cole Hamilton became the first pitcher to win eight games this season with a victory against the New York Mets 8-4. The Phillies have won 11 out of their
last 16 games and are now two games over 500 at 26-24. offensively, the Phillies were led by Ty Wiggington who went three for three with a double, home run, two
walks and a career-high six RBIs. while the Phillies won the game, They might have lost Roy Halladay because of an injured right shoulder for an extended period.
Halladay is to be examined by doctors on Tuesday.
LOS ANGELES – Aramis Ramirez return from a two-game absence in style. Ramirez hit a fourth inning homer to tie the game and singled home the go-ahead run in
the sixth inning of Milwaukee’s 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night.
