MLB Trade Deadline Approaches With Teams Looking to Fill Voids

The Major League Baseball trade deadline is quickly approaching. The deadline is on August 1 for acquiring players for a team’s stretch run or at the same time trade away veterans in preparation for building the team for the future.

A number of teams on each side of the coin are discussing possible deals with the hopes that they land players to help them win the World Series this season, or to build their corps of talent for a future run to the Fall Classic.

The Chicago Cubs struggled prior to the All-Star break and could be looking to add pitching to their roster by offering young prospects in return. The New York Yankees at the same time could be selling players as they drop further back in the American League East and wildcard race.

Some of the names that are more recognizable rumored to be on the trade block are Andrew Miller, Carlos Beltran, Aroldis Chapman, Jonathan Lucroy and Jay Bruce.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers said they were willing to part with Yasiel Puig their starting right fielder.

Mike Rizzo the Washington Nationals general manager said that rumors that his team was interested in Charlie Blackmon the centerfielder for the Colorado Rockies were not accurate.

San Francisco is looking for bullpen help. The Giants are reportedly looking at relievers for the Milwaukee Brewers and Yankees.

The Yankees currently are talking trade scenarios for their closer Aroldis Chapman with teams such as the Rangers, Indians and Nationals amongst others.

Cleveland does not have interest in Jay Bruce the Reds right fielder despite recent reports that have said they are.

Texas has been looking for another starting pitcher. However, teams they are talking to want Joey Gallo a third baseman or Jurickson Profar an infielder and the Rangers are not willing to part with either one of them.

With eleven days still remaining before the deadline a number of teams are waiting to see what happens over the next two or three series they play.

The Boston Red Sox had another scare on Tuesday when Koji Uehara their closer left the game during the ninth inning with what is described as a possible pectoral strain.

The Red Sox already have their closer Craig Kimbrel on the disabled list with a knee injury. Boston could be looking at adding another reliever even though they acquire Brad Ziegler from Arizona last week.
