MLB Scores: A’s Thump Red Sox, Uptons Go Back To Back, Angels Walk-Off

 Baseball newsThe Oakland Athletics pounded Boston pitching for 13 runs to beat the Red Sox 13-0 in a rain shortened seven inning complete game. Bartolo Colon improved his record to 3-0 and Alfredo Aceves took the loss for the Red Sox after surrendering eight runs, seven earned in 3 1/3 innings of work.

Steven Wright  who came on in relief in the fourth allowed five runs and six hits. He walked four and struck out four.

Colon struck out seven and allowed only an infield single in the first by Dustin Pedroia and two-out singles in the fifth by Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Jonny Gomes.The A’s broke a scoreless tie with six runs in the third when Seth Smith hit a two-run homer, then added two in the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the sixth.

American League Scores

New York 4 Tampa Bay 3 Ichiro Suzuki lined the first pitch he saw from Rays closer Fernando Rodney Him in the top of the ninth inning to give the Yankees a two run lead.  Mariano  Rivera came on in the ninth and gave up a leadoff home run to and the Longoria but then got three quick outs to record the save and the Yankees beat Tampa Bay 4-3. David Price  pitched into the night for Tampa Bay, and the Rays remain winless in his  five starts this season.

Baltimore 4 Toronto 3 Manny Machado had two hits and two RBIs, and Baltimore edged the Blue Jays 4-3. Miguel Gonzalez (2-1) allowed three runs in six innings for the Orioles, who have won nine of 13. R.A. Dickey (2-3) gave up four runs, six hits and five walks in six innings.

Houston 3  Seattle 2 Marwin Gonzalez  launched a two-run homer in the third inning and Bud Noris rebounded from a disastrous outing his last time out and the Astros beat the Mariners 3-2 . Justin Maxwell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the third inning  and was placed on the disabled list after the game with a broken hand.

Los Angeles 5  Texas 4 Howie Kendrick hit his second homer of the night in the 11th inning Tuesday and finished with four RBIs, leading the Angels to a 5-4 victory over the Texas Rangers.  Mike Trout made a sensational catch in the ninth inning  off the bat of Adrian Beltran to keep the game tied.

 Atlanta 4 Colorado 3 –  Justin Upton hit his major league-leading 10th home run, Dan Uggla and rookie Evan Gattis also connected in support of Minor’s solid outing and the Braves beat the Colorado Rockies 4-3

 Atlanta 10 Colorado 2 Brothers B.J. and Justin Upton hit back-to-back homers, leading the Braves to a sweep of the Rockies in a day-night doubleheader. The Uptons have homered in the same game three times this season. They each added another RBI, B.J. on a sixth-inning sacrifice fly and Justin on a ninth-inning double that was part of a four-run burst.

St. Louis 2 Washington 0 Adam Wainwright  lowered his ERA to 1.93 by going 8 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing only five hits and striking out nine, before Edward Mujica got the final two outs for his third save as the  Cardinals beat Washington 2-0

Pittsburgh 2 Philadelphia 0 Jeff Locke pitched six strong innings of two-hit ball and Gaby Sanchez homered off Cole Hamels to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates over Philadelphia 2-0.

 Chicago 4 Cincinnati 2  The Chicago Cubs Carlos Marmol gave up the tying run in the ninth before Darwin Barney bailed him out with a homer in the 10th inning for a 4-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

 Los Angeles 7 New York 2  Mark Ellis hit two home runs for the Dodgers and had four hits in four runs scored and  lead Los Angeles to a 7-2 over the Chicago Cubs.

Milwaukee 6 San Diego 3 Yovani Gallardo (2-1) allowed three runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings, with five walks and two strikeouts. Jonathan Lucroy hit a two-run double in the Brewers’ five-run second inning  to lead the Brewers over the Padres.

 Arizona 6 San Francisco 4  Paul Goldschmidt homered and drove in three runs  but it was a passed ball that allowed  Didi Gregorius  to score in the 11th inning that led to a win for Arizona.
