MLB Hands Out Discipline in D-Backs – Dodgers Brawl

Los Angeles Dodgers newsMajor League Baseball has reviewed all the evidence and reached a verdict in today dished out discipline to 12 players and coaches involved in a bench clearing brawl Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly and Arizona manager Kirk Gibson were each suspended for one game. Diamondbacks starter Ian Kennedy received the stiffest suspension at 10 games.

D-backs infielder Eric Hinske received a five-game suspension, Dodgers pitcher J.P. Howell and Dodgers outfielder Skip Schumaker were hit with two-game suspensions, and Dodgers pitcher Ronald Belisario received a one-game suspension all of whom according to MLB had significant roles in the incident.

Additionally for players were fined for their part in the incident Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke, Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, D-backs catcher Miguel Montero and D-backs outfielder Gerardo Parra.  The amount of the fines was not immediately disclosed.

The Dodgers were also find for allowing players currently on the DL to leave the dugout in violation of MLB rules.

All suspensions are subject to appeal with the exception of Mattingly and Gibson who will begin serving their one-game suspension immediately.
