Miguel Sano Called Up by Minnesota Twins

top ProspectsIn a season that has seen the arrival of super prospect Byron Buxton in Minnesota, the Twins will give another top prospect his Major League debut. Miguel Sano, a 22-year-old third baseman who is MLB.com’s No. 11 overall prospect, will join the Twins tomorrow, the website reported.

Regarded by most scouts as the best right-handed power hitting prospect in the minors, Sano has clubbed 105 home runs in five minor league seasons, including 15 this year at Double-A Chattanooga. He missed the 2014 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery. Sano is expected to see a bulk of his playing time at DH since third base is occupied by Trevor Plouffe.

Buxton was placed on the 15-day disabled list last Friday with a sprained thumb, an injury he sustained during a stolen base attempt last week. The 21-year-old center fielder, who was the second pick of the 2012 draft, was batting .189 (7-for-37) in 11 games with the Twins. Buxton entered the 2015 campaign as the game’s No. 1 overall prospect according to MLB.com and BaseballProspectus.com, and Baseball America’s No. 2 overall prospect.

Alex Meyer, a 25-year-old right-hander who entered 2015 as BaseballProspectus.com’s No. 14 overall prospect, was recently summoned to Minnesota from Triple-A Rochester. He is considered a potential top of the rotation starter but is getting his first taste of the majors as a reliever.
