Dodgers and Reds Putting Together Possible Three-Team Deal

The Major League Baseball trade deadline is less than two days away. Some teams in the hunt for players to help their stretch run towards the postseason have already made big trades, while others are still trying to find their “perfect fit.”

One of those teams is the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers sit in second place in the National League West just one game behind the free falling San Francisco Giants.

The Dodgers are said to be trying to acquire Jay Bruce the Cincinnati Reds outfielder who is currently on a home run tear hitting 6 round trippers in his past 5 games.

The deal for Bruce is still a rumor but it is said to involve three teams that would result in Bruce playing for the Dodgers and Yasiel Puig the current Dodgers right fielder playing with possibly the Tampa Bay Rays along with some pitching prospects from the Dodgers.

The Dodgers would also have to give up some of their hitting prospects to the Reds as part of this deal.

Another version of this trade has Tampa Bay sending one of its starting pitchers to the Dodgers and the Reds. The Dodgers and the Reds were trading partners this past winter as they were close to a deal that would have sent closer Aroldis Chapman to the Dodgers but that fell through.

However, they did enter a three-team deal with Cincinnati and the White Sox that sent Reds slugger Todd Frazier to Chicago.

The current front office of the Dodgers has shown a liking to trades involving three teams, having pulled the Frazier deal of, which netted the Dodgers the talented young Trayce Thompson amongst other players.

Then the deal with Atlanta and Miami at the deadline last year that was preceded by two simultaneous ones to get Howie Kendrick from the Los Angeles Angels and the Phillies Jimmy Rollins the previous year.

There was nothing that would give an indication that a trade was imminent at the end of Friday night. However, nearly every major baseball rumor monger already had tweeted some information that concerned a possible deal that would land Bruce with the Dodgers.

Of course, there are other teams that are trying to make last minute additions to their lineups as the deadline nears. This will make this weekend’s games more interesting as August 1 is only 36 hours away.
