AL Recaps – Yankees Rally Late – Stun Angels

The Yankees beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-5

Mark Teixeira homered twice including a three-run bomb in the eighth inning to tie the game.

Soon after Dewayne Wise scored on a Russell Martin single to give the Yankees the lead. Rafael Soriano came on in the ninth and recorded his 21st save of the season.

Hiroki Kuroda was the starter for the Yankees, and gave up five runs as he pitched into the eighth, striking out six.

Chad Qualls who joined the team last week picked up his first victory as a Yankee.

For the Angels, C.J. Wilson was effective for seven innings giving up just two earned runs and striking out seven.

Mark Trumbo blasted his 23rd home run in the seventh inning for the Angels.

Athletics 6 – Twins 3 The Minnesota Twins Nelson Liriano struck out 15 Oakland A’s batters and lost 6-3. Johnny Jones was the hitting star for the A’s with two hits and five RBI.

Boston 3 Tampa Bay 1   David Ortiz hit his 23rd home run in the first inning and the Red Sox would add  two more runs in the second inning. The Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1.

The Red Sox took advantage of some sloppy base running, and some anemic hitting by the home team to beat the Rays.

Pedro Ciriaco had three hits for the Red Sox

Cleveland 1 – Toronto 0 Justin Masterson and Chris Perez shut down and shut out the Toronto Blue Jays 1-0 . Teh long run in the game came off of the bat of Travis Hafner when he hit his eighth home run of the season.

Detroit 7 – Baltimore 2 the Detroit Tigers picked up where they left off and won their sixth consecutive game beating the Baltimore Orioles 7-2 .

The Tigers were led by Miguel Cabrera and Johnny Peralta who both homered. Doug Fister was outstanding starting for the Tigers in pitching seven innings of one run baseball, while striking out eight

Texas 3 – Seattle 2  Adrian Beltre  backed up the pitching of Derek Hollandwith a home run and two RBI,  and the Texas Rangers edged the Seattle Mariners 3-2

Chicago 9 – Kansas City 8    Kevin Youkilis’ sacrifice fly in the 14th inning scored Gordon Beckham and the Chicago White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 9-8
