Mike Olt Launches Two Home Runs In the 9th For Triple-A Round Rock

Texas Rangers newsThe Texas Rangers number two prospect Mike Olt  is no stranger to the long ball hitting 28 home runs a year ago at Double A Frisco, but on Sunday took things to a new level homering twice in the ninth inning asTriple A Round Rock scored eight times and rallied for a 9-4 victory at Oklahoma City. Olt credits a small adjustment  after going 0 -for- 3 heading into the ninth-inning.

“I wasn’t pulling the trigger in my swing on a few pitches early in the game,” he said, “so I made a little adjustment.”

Olt  struggled much of the early spring in the Pacific Coast league and was placed on the disabled list with vision problems by the Rangers.  After discovering that his right eye was failing to produce moisture, doctors  prescribed eye drops and immediately his vision was better.

After a couple games in AA, Olt returned to Round Rock and has put together four multi-hit games and has seven extra-base hits — including five homers — while posting a .333 on-base percentage. Olt  is seemingly now trending back in the right direction.

Olt spent 16 games with the Rangers last year and hit .152/.250/.182  in 40 plate appearances. You can see the second of his two blasts below in the video
