Miami Marlins Add Jose Fernandez To Opening Day Roster

Marlins newsThe Miami Marlins  added prospect RHP  Jose Fernandez to their opening-day roster after placing RHP Nathan Eovaldi on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder injury. Henderson Alvarez is also out with a shoulder injury.  Fernandez has not pitched above Class A ball,  and posted a 1.75 ERA and 158/35 K/BB ratio over 134 innings in 2012. Fernandez will make his first start next Sunday against the New York Mets

Fernandez was sent to minor league camp earlier this month,  and was expected to start the season with Double-A Jacksonville. Fernandez had just the one Grapefruit League appearance — two scoreless innings of relief against the Nationals — but pitched in an intrasquad game, and logged 1 1/3 innings against the Venezuelan World Baseball Classic team in an exhibition.

Marlins News :  Marlins placed 1B Logan Morrison on the 60-day disabled list with a right knee injury and Alfredo Silverio on the 60-day disabled list with a sprained right elbow. The team purchased the contracts of Austin Kearns, Chris Valaika,  Casey Kotchman, Kevin Slowey, Chad Qualls, and John Maine from AAA New Orleans.
