Mariners Acquire Logan Morrison In Trade With Marlins

Miami Marlins newsThe Seattle Mariners acquired 1B/OF Logan Morrison from the Miami Marlins in a trade in exchange for right-handed reliever Carter Capps.

Morrison, 25, hit .242/.333/.375 with six home runs in 85 games in 2013.

Capps, 23, has a 5.04 ERA and 2.76 K/BB ratio in 84 relief innings spread across two major-league seasons. In those 84 innings, he’s recorded 94 strikeouts, but he’s also allowed 12 home runs.

Morrison has been the subject of numerous trade rumors throughout the off-season,  peaking this week when the team signed Garrett Jones to essentially replace him at his position.  Among the teams reportedly interested in Morrison where the Marlins, Rays, Pirates and of course the Mariners.

The Mariners made the big splash signing of this off-season inking free-agent second baseman Robinson Cano to a 10 year $240 million deal, and it’s likely the team is working on more acquisitions.
