Angels Mike Trout Unanimous Choice for AL Rookie of the Year

Trout was the eighth unanimous pick for AL Rookie of the Year

Mike Trout was selected as a unanimous choice for the 2012 American League Rookie of the Year. Trout received all 28 first-place votes from the baseball writers Association of America.

Trout became the eighth unanimous American League. And the first since Tampa Bay’s Evan Longoria in 2008. For winning the award, Trout earned a $10,000 bonus on top of his $482,500 salary.

Trout, who hit .326 with 30 homers and 83 RBIs, received the maximum 140 points.  He led the league with 129 runs scored and 49 steals. The Oakland Athletics Yoenis Cespedes finished second, followed by the Texas Rangers Yu Darvish in third.

Trout may not be done receiving awards this season.

The AL MVP  will be announced on Thursday. Miguel Cabrera who won the first Triple Crown since 1967 is the favorite, however, as evidenced by the rookie of the year balloting, Trout has a following of voters.

MLB Awards week will continue this week with Manager of the Year will be named November 13, the Cy Young Awards are set for November 14 and MVPs are announced November 15.
