Rangers Adrian Beltre Ruled Out for Game 2 of ALDS

Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre has been ruled out for Friday’s Game 2 of the AL Division Series after suffering a back strain during the series opener. Beltre was hurt in the first inning of Thursdays 5-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. The loss of Beltre even for one game is significant. Beltre hit .287 with 18 homers and 87 RBIs this season. Pittsburgh Pirates Andrew McCutchen Headed to DL

The Pittsburgh Pirates are expected to announced that All-Star center fielder Andrew McCutchen will be placed 15-day disabled list due to an oblique muscle injury, according to the  the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. McCutchen may miss up to a month of playing time, significantly impacting the Pirates run at a playoff spot. The injury occurred during Sundays game with the Arizona Diamondbacks during an eighth inning at bat. Astros Send George Springer to DL

The Houston Astros placed George Springer on the 15 day DL, technically with a right quad injury, although he has been experiencing right knee discomfort as well. The hope is his stay on the DL will not be an extended one. To take his place, the team recalled Marc Krauss from Class AAA Oklahoma City. Time for the truth. I wasn’t sure what Chikungunya virus was, but it didn’t sound like something I would want. Tampa Bay Rays reliever Joel Peralta thinks he may have contacted the virus during the All-Star break while visiting the Dominican Republic. Doctors confirmed New York Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka has a partially torn UCL  in his right elbow and will miss a minimum of six weeks. Yankees Masahiro Tanaka Placed on DL With Elbow Inflamation

New York Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka has been placed on the disabled list with a sore elbow, the club announced Wednesday. The Yankees invested $175 million in Masahiro Tanaka before this season, giving him a seven-year, $155 million contract while also paying a $20 million posting fee to his Japanese club, the Rakuten Golden Eagles, and up until this point it was a good investment. Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto was not in the lineup today leading to speculation that he may be headed back to the disabled list with the same injury that put him there there the first time earlier this season, a left quad problem. The Minnesota Twins announced first baseman Joe Mauer has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained oblique . First baseman/outfielder Chris Colabello has been recalled from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move. Mauer suffered the injury on the game against Kansas City Wednesday night. The Washington Nationals Bryce Harper has been activated from the 15 day DL. Harper missed 59 games because of a torn ligament in his left thumb. Coincidentally, or not, tonight is Bryce Harper bobblehead night at Nationals Park.  Left-handed reliever Xavier Cedeno was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. Houston Astros top prospect Carlos Correa will miss the remainder of 2014 after undergoing surgery Wednesday to repair a fracture of his fibula just above his right ankle, general manager Jeff Luhnow said. The injury spoils a spectacular season for Correa who was hitting .325/.416/.510, 16 doubles, six triples, six homers, 57 RBI, 50 runs and 20 stolen bases in 62 games, putting him line to be promoted to Double-A Corpus Christi later this year. Pirates Place Gerritt Cole On DL With Shoulder Fatigue

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed young ace Gerrit Cole on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder fatigue. The move is retroactive to June 4. The Pirates called up lefty Jeff Locke from Triple-A Indianapolis to start Sunday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers. In 12 starts and 76 2/3 innings this season, Cole has gone 6-3 with a 3.64 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. He has a 3.39 ERA in 194 MLB innings since making his debut last summer. Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Ben Zobrist dislocated his thumb sliding head first into second base on a steal attempt in the top of the fifth against the Seattle Mariners today and will likely be head to the disabled list. Rays manager Joe Maddon said the team will using Sean Rodriguez and Logan Forsythe at 2B in Zobrist’s absence. Cincinnati Reds first baseman Jay Bruce was placed on the 15 day disabled list and will require knee surgery that will sideline the 27 year old for 3-4 weeks. Bruce has hit .218/.355/.366 (99 OPS+) with only three home runs in 29 games this season.
