Justin Masterson shuts out Yankees with four-hitter

Cleveland Indians newsJustin Masterson struck out nine batters Jason Kipnis provided all the offense Cleveland Indians would need in a 1-0 shutout of the New York Yankees.  Masterson  allowed just four hits and walked three to complete his second shutout of the season  In game one of an afternoon doubleheader in Cleveland.

New York came into Cleveland the hottest team in baseball with a 22-7 record since April 7. Cleveland, which moved into a tie atop the AL Central by winning two of three at Detroit last weekend, has won 13 of 15 and is 16-5 since April 20.

With Indians closer Chris Perez warming up in the bullpen, Masterson retired Robinson Cano and Travis Hafner in the ninth before Brennan Boesch singled with two outs. Masterson then struck out pinch-hitter Vernon Wells.

 Cleveland Indians Fantasy News:  There doesn’t seem to be a middle ground with Masterson, when he’s on he is very good when he’s off you make you wonder why you gave him a start.  That being said, he will probably have more good days than bad and is a solid fantasy starter in any format.
