Gavin Floyd is expected to miss the rest of the season when he undergoes surgery on his right elbow. The White Sox starter, who was injured on April 27th in a game against the Tampa Bay Rays, tried repeatedly to avoid major surgery but finally received confirmation it will be necessary.
His recovery time is 14-19 months which effectively shuts him down for at least 2013 and possibly 2014.
Fantasy Play: The news is obviously devastating for White Sox fans and Floyd owners as he is now just about useless in every format, including Keeper Leagues. Floyd wasn’t a major impact maker but he was striking out more than a pitcher an inning and is one of just four AL starters to win double digit games the past five years.
Floyd is also having surgery on his ulnar collateral ligament, which explains the long recovery time. Set to be a Free Agent after this season and with his future in limbo, Floyd is no longer a viable option for a roster spot.
