Tigers’ Prince Fielder Pictured on Worlds Largest Baseball Card

Baseball NewsTopps Company kicked off the new baseball season unveiling what the company called  “the biggest baseball card ever,” a massive, 5000-plus square foot image of Detroit Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder spanning a large section of a youth baseball outfield in Lakeland Florida. The promotion by the Topps Company is in anticipation for the Topps Series 1 baseball cards for 2013, typically among the first baseball card sets to be issued each season.

The card was 90 feet tall by 60 feet wide and covered just about all of center field at Peterson Park, just a few miles from Joker Marchant Stadium, where Tigers pitchers and catchers reported for the first day of spring training.

Topps noted that it would take 82,944 baseball cards and 83,966 official Major League baseballs to cover the surface area of the massive Fielder card. “Spring Training is one of the most exciting times for baseball fans, as it marks the official start of a brand new baseball season,” said Marc Stephens, Marketing Manager for the Topps company. “We are excited to kick off the season and celebrate the launch of our new 2013 Series with Lakeland City Baseball, Prince and baseball fans everywhere.”
