College Baseball Regionals 2013: Day 3 Scores and Highlights

College Baseball RegionalsRegional tournament play entered its third day on Sunday, where teams facing double elimination would have their final shots at remaining in the NCAA Tournament. Those teams would have little rest, having to play the number one seeded teams within their region in the regional championship game that decides which team moves on to Super Regionals.

Day Three saw many of the same upsets that occurred on day one, as notable number two seeds Alabama, Clemson, Miami, and Ole Miss were all sent home. Alabama held onto an 8-5 lead heading into the ninth inning before surrendering four runs and the game to Troy.

Similarly, Ole Miss looked lost in their 4-1 loss to William & Mary, as their solid offensive lineup failed to show up when it mattered most.

Miami 1, Oklahoma State 7 – Miami eliminated; Oklahoma State to face Louisville in Louisville Regional Championship

Alabama 8, Troy 9 – Alabama eliminated; Troy to face FSU in Tallahassee Regional Championship

Clemson 1, Liberty 3 – Clemson eliminated; Liberty to face South Carolina in Columbia Regional Championship.

Mississippi 1, William & Mary 4 – Mississippi eliminated; William & Mary to face NC State in Raleigh Regional Championship

Austin Peay 5, Valparaiso 4 – Valparaiso eliminated; Austin Peay to face Indiana in Bloomington Regional Championship

UNC-Wilmington 4, Elon 6 – UNC-Wilmington eliminated; Elon to face Virginia in Charlottesville Regional Championship

Florida Atlantic 6, Towson 5 – Towson eliminated; Florida Atlantic to face North Carolina on Sunday night to force a Monday match-up for the Chapel Hill Regional Championship.

Virginia Tech 3, Connecticut 1 – Connecticut eliminated; Virginia Tech to face Oklahoma in Blacksburg Regional Championship

Georgia Tech 6, Illinois 3 – Illinois eliminated; Georgia Tech to face Vanderbilt on Sunday night to force a Monday match-up for the Nashville Regional Championship

LA-Lafayette 7, Sam Houston State 5 – Sam Houston State eliminated; LA-Lafayette to face LSU in Baton Rouge Regional Championship

Oregon 6, San Francisco 1 – San Francisco eliminated; Oregon to face Rice on Sunday night to force a Monday match-up for the Eugene Regional Championship

Texas A&M 5, UCSB 4 – UCSB eliminated; Texas A&M to face Oregon State in Corvallis Regional Championship

Arkansas 12, Bryant 6 – Bryant eliminated; Arkansas to face Kansas State in Manhattan Regional Championship

Cal Poly 5, San Diego 8 – Cal Poly eliminated; San Diego to face UCLA in Los Angeles Regional Championship.

Arizona State 10, Columbia 5 – Columbia eliminated; Arizona State to face Cal State Fullerton in Fullerton Regional Championship

South Alabama 0, Central Arkansas 3 – South Alabama eliminated; Central Arkansas to face Mississippi State on Sunday night to force a Monday match-up for the Starkville Regional Championship

North Carolina 2, Florida Atlantic 3 – North Carolina and Florida Atlantic will face each other again on Monday in the Chapel Hill Regional Championship.

Vanderbilt 0, Georgia Tech 5 – Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech will face each other again on Monday in the Nashville Regional Championship

Mississippi State 2, Central Arkansas 5 – Mississippi State and Central Arkansas will face each other again on Monday in the Starkville Regional Championship

Rice 0, Oregon 11 – Rice and Oregon will face each other again on Monday in the Eugene Regional Championship.

Regional Championship Games

Louisville 12, Oklahoma State 3 – Louisville put on an offensive clinic against Oklahoma State, scoring 12 runs behind Coco Johnson’s three RBI performance en route to grabbing the Louisville Regional Championship. Louisville will face either Georgia Tech or Vanderbilt in Super Regionals play.

Troy 4, FSU 11 – A seven-run fourth inning capped by a Brett Knief grand slam would cement the victory for FSU, who in sending underdog Troy home will face Indiana in Super Regionals play.

William & Mary 2, NC State 9 – NC State would roll in the Raleigh Regional Championship behind Tarran Senay’s three-run homer and 5 RBI, ousting William & Mary 9-2. The Wolfpack will face either Oregon or Rice in the Super Regionals.

Elon 3, Virginia 11 – A six-run third inning and a strong relief appearance by David Rosenberger would highlight Virginia’s Charlottesville Regional Championship victory over Elon. Virginia will face either Mississippi State or Central Arkansas in the Super Regionals.

Oklahoma 10, Virginia Tech 4 – Oklahoma breezed through regional play, ousting Virginia Tech behind Hector Lorenzana’s three RBI effort and moving onto Super Regionals play, where the Sooners will face LSU in the Super Regionals.

Austin Peay 1, Indiana 6 – Kyle Schwarber’s 17th home run of the season would lead Indiana in its Bloomington Regional Championship victory over Austin Peay. Indiana will face Florida State in Super Regionals play.

Kansas State 4, Arkansas 3 – A poor regional showing for the Razorbacks was highlighted on Sunday, as they blew a three-run lead to Kansas State and were ousted from NCAA tournament play. Kansas State will face Oregon State in the Super Regionals.

Oregon State 6, Texas A&M 1 – Beavers starter Ben Wetzler was superb in a complete-game victory against Texas A&M, leading Oregon State into the Super Regionals where they will face Kansas State.

LSU 5, LA-Lafayette 1 – Alex Bregman and Raph Rhymes led the Tigers offense in their 5-1 victory over LA-Lafayette in the Baton Rouge Regional Championship. LSU will face Oklahoma in the Super Regionals.

UCLA 6, San Diego 0 – Grant Watson pitched seven scoreless innings, surrendering just one hit in the Bruins’ 6-0 shutout of San Diego, as UCLA advances to the Super Regionals where they will face either Cal State Fullerton or Arizona State.
