Joey Votto Powers His Way to NL Player of the Week

Cincinnati Reds NewsCincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto was given the honor of National League Player of the Week on Monday, covering games from the week of May 13 through May 19.

Over the course of the past week, Votto boasted a major league best batting average of .583, while leading the NL with a .655 on-base percentage and a .917 slugging percentage that was good enough for second in the NL.

Votto would also slug two home runs and drive in five runs, collecting 14 hits that were included in five multi-hit games.

The highlight of Votto’s week was in a victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday, in which he reached base safely in each of his six plate appearances, going 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.

Votto extended his hitting streak to nine games on Monday night in a 4-3 victory over the New York Mets and is amongst the NL leaders in hitting with a .353 batting average, while slugging 6 home runs with 20 RBI.
