Bronson Arroyo Dominates Phillies in Reds Win

Cincinnati Reds newsVeteran right-hander Bronson Arroyo earned his fourth win of the season in a dominant pitching performance against the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday afternoon, a 10-0 blowout victory for the Cincinnati Reds.

Arroyo worked 7.2 innings, allowing no runs while striking out six batters with two walks. The Cincinnati starter located his pitches and showed great poise on the mound, taking command of the Philadelphia lineup by registering 22 first-pitch strikes of the 29 batters that he faced.

While Arroyo held the Phillies’ hitters in line, the Cincinnati offense gave their fair share of run support. Ryan Hanigan‘s three-run home run in the top of the second-inning would give the Reds an early lead and they would not look back.

Capping the 10 run offensive effort would be Joey Votto, crushing a two-run home run to straightaway center field with two outs in the top of the ninth-inning.

With the win, Arroyo improves to 4-4 with a 3.28 ERA in 60.1 innings of work. The Reds improve to 26-17 on the season, half a game back of the NL Central leading St. Louis Cardinals.
