Red Sox Joel Hanrahan Day To Day With Tender Hamstring

Red Sox NewsBoston Red Sox closer Joel Hanrahan is day-to-day because of a sore right hamstring suffered earlier this month in a scoreless inning against the New York Yankees on April 3.  Hanrahan has been receiving treatment on the hamstring this past week and has tried to pitch through it,  and may be contributing to some mechanical flaws in his delivery.

“It’s a manageable situation,”  Red Sox manager John Farrell said, “but it’s clearly had an effect on his ability to repeat his delivery.

Hanrahan suffered a blown save giving up five runs in two thirds of an inning in an 8-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles earlier this week and  yesterday walked the only two batters he faced in the ninth inning of a tie game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Andrew Bailey  will step in as the closer while Hanrahan rehabilitates the sore hamstring. Bailey who was acquired in a trade with the Oakland Athletics last year has allowed just one hit while striking out seven in five appearances.
