Michael Pineda Shut Down – Suffers Setback

The New York Yankees were expecting Michael Pineda‘s first game action would signal a recovery from shoulder inflammation suffered earlier in the spring . Instead Pineda suffered a setback and the Yankees don’t know when to expect him back .

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that thing it was shut down after just one inning of an extended spring training game in Tampa. Pineda was said to have experienced shoulder weakness and is scheduled to be examined further in Tampa.

The Yankees are concerned obviously. The Yankees acquired Pineda a huge off-season trade with the Mariners for top prospect Jesus Montero.

One has to wonder whether or not that trade is going to be a bust or not. It is still too early to tell, but the Yankees can’t be feeling good about it at this point. Meanwhile, the Yankees added Andy Pettitte as an insurance policy for their starting rotation. At this point, Andy Pettite will likely join the rotation before Pineda.
