Reynolds opts for a one-year deal in Cleveland

Free-agent Mark Reynolds, has reached an agreement on a one-year deal worth $6 million with the Cleveland Indians. With incentives the deal can reach $7.5 million according to Britt Ghiroli.

Reynolds would presumably become the Indians’ everyday first baseman in 2013.

Reynolds was a solid contributor to the 2012 Baltimore Orioles playoff team, hitting .221 with 23 home runs and 69 RBI in 135 games. Reynolds hit 37 home runs in 2011 and 44 home runs in 2008.

The signing of Reynolds may signal an end to the pursuit of free-agent Kevin Youkilis. Youkilis has an offer in wait from the New York Yankees, and was offered a two-year deal by the Indians.

The Indians infield now appears set with Jason Kipnis at second base,  Asdrubal Cabrera at shortstop, and at third base Lonnie Chisenhall. Cabrera has been mentioned prominently in trade rumors involving the Arizona Diamondbacks and Justin Upton.
