Verlander Dominates Oakland to Send Tigers to ALCS

The Tigers now await the winner of the Baltimore-New York series

Justin Verlander pitched a four hit complete game shutout, struck out 11 batters and the Detroit Tigers beat Oakland 6-0 to win the ALDS. Detroit will now play the winner of the Baltimore Orioles – New York Yankees ALDS in the American League Championship Series.

Verlander needed 122 pitches to complete the gem. “I don’t have anybody better than him,” Tigers manager Jim Leyland said before the game. “And if they get to him that much, we’ll probably be in trouble.”

Jarrod Parker pitched into the seventh inning for Oakland allowing four earned runs and striking out six in the loss.

Austin Jackson had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI for the Tigers. Miguel Cabrera, Delmon Young Joel Peralta and Prince Fielder added an RBI each in a nine hit effort against Oakland pitching.

For Oakland,  a magical season 94-68 comes to an end.
