Brett Anderson Leads A’s Over Tigers in Game 3

Oakland A's news

Anderson held the Tigers in check for six innings

The Oakland Athletics used three old friends, pitching defense and timely hitting,  to help beat the Detroit Tigers 2-0 in game three of the American League Division Series.

Brett Anderson pitching for the first time since September 19 was efficient and in command giving Oakland six solid innings and allowing just two hits, while striking out six.

Ryan Cook, Sean Doolittle, and Grant Balfour finished the shutout for the Athletics.

Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez was also solid pitching into the seventh inning allowing two earned runs and striking out three, but the two runs would be all that Oakland needed. Yoenis Cespedes singled in the first inning to score Coco Crisp and Seth Smith homered in the fifth inning to account for Oakland’s runs.

Coco Crisp saved a l home run by Prince Fielder with a leaping catch at the top of the center-field wall in the second. Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera was 1 for 4 in the game. Joel Peralta added two hits for the Tigers.

Rookie right-hander A.J. Griffin is scheduled to start for Oakland in Game 4 against Max Scherzer.
