Cardinals bats too much for Washington in Game 2 of NLDS

Carlos Beltran and Jon Jay drove in 3 runs each to lead St. Louis Cardinals to a 12-4 victory over the Washington nationals in game two of the National League Division Series playoffs. Beltran homered twice in the game, once in the six-game and again in the eighth inning.

The Cardinals staked themselves to a 4-1 lead in the second inning on a double by David Freese, and  base hits  by Daniel Descalso, and Jay. Allen Craig homered in the third inning and Descalso in the fourth inning to make the score 7-1 after four innings.  Ryan Zimmerman and Adam LaRoche hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning for the Nationals.

Jordan Zimmermann lasted three innings for Washington. Cardinals starter Jaime Garcia was taken out with a shoulder injury after two innings and sent for an MRI exam. “It just wasn’t right the whole time. I had to come out of the game,” Garcia said. “I don’t know how it happened, I don’t know when it happened.

The Cardinals 12 runs against the Nationals today is the most runs allowed in the franchise’s postseason history. The Dodgers had scored 7 against the Expos in Game 4 of the 1981 NLCS.
