Lawrie, Arencibia Activated from Disabled List

With a promising season decimated by injuries, the Toronto Blue Jays have been relegated to a spoilers role over the last 25 games of the season.

Today, the Blue Jays announced that they were activating Brett Lawrie and J.P. Arencibia from the disabled list .  The Blue Jays are in the cellar of the American League East 15 1/2 games behind the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees who are tied for the division lead

Lawrie has been sidelined since early August with an oblique strain.  The 22-year-old Lawrie is hitting .282/.326/.416. in his final rehab game at Class A Lansing , Lawrie  went 3 for 4 with a triple

Arencibia fractured his hand on July 25. Arencibia  is batting .242/.279/.466 with 16 homers in 281 at-bats. Arencibia played in two playoff games for high Class-A Dunedin before being activated.

The Blue jays also recalled 1B/OF Yan Gomes,  RHP Joel Carreno, and  RHP David Carpenter from Triple-A Las Vegas, to add roster flexibility.
