Rays David Price to Miss Start

Tampa Bay Rays news

The Tampa Bay Rays are taking the cautious approach with ace left-hander David Price. The team announced Price will miss his scheduled start on Saturday against the Texas Rangers due to general soreness in his pitching shoulder.

Reportedly, Price experienced shoulder soreness on Monday, the day after his last start in Toronto.  Price leads the American League with 17 wins and is a American League Cy Young candidate.

Both the team and Price say the move is precautionary.

Chris Archer who was called up to serve as a spot starter for Alex Cobb, who is having his workload monitored will start in place of Price, Saturday against the Rangers. Archer was 0-2 with a 3.86 ERA while filling in for then-injured RHP Jeremy Hellickson earlier in the season.

Manager Joe Maddon said Archer’s schedule isn’t set yet after tonight, but he’s looking forward to seeing the rookie. “As we move to this latter part of the month, different things can happen,” Maddon said. “If he’s well and he’s able to hold his own up here, who knows how he’s going to be able to help us down the road? It’s the right time to try it out.”
