Price Throttles Jays

Tampa Bay 9 – Toronto 4 – The on-again, off-again, offense for the Tampa Bay Rays, pounded Toronto pitching today for 18 hits in nine runs to back up the pitching of David Price who rebounded from a poor performance in Texas to became the American League’s first 17 game winner.

Price gave up two runs and six hits, while striking out 5/6 and two thirds innings of work. He walked four.  Ben Francisco had two hits including his first home run as a member of the Rays. Desmond Jennings had three hits and scored two runs with an RBI, Ben Zobrist, Carlos Pena and Evan Longoria each each had two hits for Tampa Bay. Edwin Encarnacion hit his 37th home run of the season in the ninth-inning with Colby Rasmus aboard.

Profar, Beltre, Hamilton and Murphy power Texas

Texas 8 – Cleveland 3 –  Jurickson Profar in a homerun in his first major league at-bat and the Texas Rangers walloped the Cleveland Indians 8-3. Profar became the second youngest player and only the third teenager to belt a home run in his first career at-bat. Batting ninth, Profar went 2 for 4. Josh HamiltonAdrian Beltre and David Murphy all hit solo home runs in the Texas fifth. Derek Holland gave up two runs over seven innings for Texas.

Baltimore wins series against the Yankees

Baltimore 8 – New York 3Mark Reynolds hit two home runs and Randy Wolf came on in relief of starter Chris Tillman left in the third inning with a injury to his right elbow and the Orioles beat the New York Yankees 8-3, to win the weekend series in the Bronx.  Curtis Granderson , Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira  did not play for the Yankees due to injuries. Nick Markakis had three hits and two RBI for Baltimore, but it was Reynolds who was the hitting star for Baltimore with three runs toward and four RBI among his three hits. Phil Hughes completed five innings of work for the Yankees allowing five earned runs and striking out six. The Yankees used eight pitchers in the game. Joba Chamberlain gave up two runs in a third of an inning for New York.

Mariners and Montero Top Angels’ Weaver

Los Angeles 1  – Seattle 2 –   Jesus Montero homered off Los Angeles Angels starter Jered Weaver and the Seattle Mariners beat the Los Angeles Angels 2-1 . Carlos Peguero also homered against Weaver. Hisashi Iwakuma pitched into the eighth inning, striking out seven and allowing no runs. The Angels were limited to just six hits.

Oakland wins ninth straight game

Boston 2  – Oakland 6 – Brett Anderson won his third consecutive game since coming back from Tommy John surgery and the Oakland A’s got home runs from Seth Smith and Stephen Drew to beat the Red Sox 6-2. Josh Reddick added a sacrifice fly and Yoenis Cespedes drove in a run for Oakland. Daisuke Matsuzaka was touched for six earned runs in 3 2/3 innings. Dustin Pedroia had three hits for the Red Sox.

Abreu leads Royals over Minnesota

Minnesota 4  – Kansas City 6Tony Abreu had three RBI to lead the Kansas City Royals over the Minnesota Twins 6-4.  Abreu had a two run two-out single in the second inning to knockin  Mike Moustakas and Lorenzo CainChris Parmelee homered and Alexi Casilla added two hits and two RBI for Minnesota
