AL Recaps – Tigers beat White Sox to close AL Central Gap

Chicago 1  – Detroit 5 – Max Scherzer pitched eight solid innings striking out nine and allowing just four hits to lead the Detroit Tigers over the Chicago White Sox 5-1. Delmon Young had two hits including a home run, and Miguel Cabrera had three hits and two RBI to lead the Tigers

Texas 3 – Cleveland 4Scott Feldman allowed four runs on six hits in six innings and the Cleveland Indians beat the Texas Rangers 4-3. Adrian Beltre had three more hits including a solo home run in a losing effort. Jeanmar Gomez allowed three runs and four hits in 5 2/3 innings. Carlos Santana had a two-run single for Cleveland

Minnesota 3 – Kansas City 1 – Justin Morneau had two RBI and Cole De Vries pitched into the seventh inning allowing one run on seven hits and striking out three to lead the Minnesota Twins over the Kansas City Royals 3-1

Minnesota – Kansas CityJoe Mauer homered for the Twins, and Luke Hochevar gave up eight runs on six hits in 1 2/3 innings for the Royals

Los Angeles 5 – Seattle 2Ervin Santana allowed two runs and four hits over seven innings of work and Torrii Hunter had three hits a stolen base and two runs scored to help the Los Angeles Angels beat the Seattle Mariners 5-2.  Trayvon Robinson had a solo home run for the Mariners. Felix Hernandez allowed five runs, four earned, and nine hits as he pitched into the eighth inning in the loss.

Baltimore 3 – New York 4 – the New York Yankees scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning helped by a bases-loaded error by shortstop J.J. Hardy to beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-3. Curtis Granderson had to leave the game after two innings because of tightness in his right hamstring. Matt Weiters homered for the Orioles. Robinson Cano hit his 28th home run off of Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen.

Tampa Bay 5 – Toronto 4 –  Matt Joyce homered and had three RBI to help Rays beat back the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4. Ryan Roberts also homered for Tampa Bay. The game ended on a close play at home plate when Colby Rasmus singled to center and B.J. Upton fired a strike to home plate and Jose Molina tagged out Omar Vizquel. Tampa Bay starter Jeff Niemann making his first start since May 14 had to leave the game with a stiff shoulder in the fourth inning.
