NL Recaps – Kendrick Outduels Johnson in Phillies win over Marlins

Kendrick allowed just six hits over seven scoreless innings while adding six strikeouts.

Philadelphia 1- Miami 0 – in what turned out to be a classic pitchers duel Kyle Kendrick outpitched Josh Johnson to lead the Phillies 1-0 to a victory. Jimmy Rollins provided all the offense that was needed in the first inning with a solo home run for the Phillies.

“Offensively, we couldn’t get anything going,” Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen said. “After the last couple guys pitching, I thought today looked a little easier. I was wrong.”

Kendrick allowed  just six hits over seven scoreless innings while adding six strikeouts.

Johnson was equally impressive striking out seven and walking one, with one earned run.  Jonathan Papelbon earned his 26th save in 29 attempts for the Phillies.

Los Angeles 11 – Pittsburgh 0 – Hanley Ramirez went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, Luis Cruz went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored

Milwaukee 6 – Colorado 8 – Carlos Gonzalez went 4-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI

Arizona 2 –  St. Louis 8 – Jon Jay led the Cardinals, going 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI. Miguel Montero had a two-run homer for Arizona. Matt Holliday also homered for the Cards

New York 0 – Cincinnati 3 – Jay Bruce blasted a three-run homer him for a walkoff win against the Mets. Mat Latos pitched seven shutout innings for the Reds.

San Diego 0 – Atlanta 6 – Tim Hudson  pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out four.

Houston 10 – Chicago 1Lucas Harrell pitched eight strong innings, and  Brett Wallace and Fernando Martinez hit three-run homers to lead the Astros over the Cubs

Washington 1 – San Francisco 6 – Madison Bumgarner gave up just one run on five hits in a 6-1 victory over the Nationals. Brandon Belt went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI
