NL Recaps – Jason Marquis Throws 2-Hit Shutout at the Pirates

Jason Marquis San Diego Padres newsSan Diego 5 – Pittsburgh 0 – Jason Marquis did not allow a hit until the seventh inning and ended the night with a two hit shutout over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Marquis struck out four and walked one in his first shutout since April 29, 2011. AJ Burnett, gave up four runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings of work.

Milwaukee 5 – Houston 6Scott Moore at an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning and the Houston Astros. Walked off in victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. Tyler Greene homered for the Astros

St. Louis 4 – Philadelphia 1 – Matt Holliday finished 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and the Cardinals beat the Phillies and Cliff Lee 4-1. Lee gave up four runs and 10 hits over seven innings for the Phillies.

Atlanta 9 – New York 3 Freddie Freeman knocked in five runs in the Atlanta Braves beat the New York Mets and Johan Santana 9-3 . It was Santana’s first start since returning from the disabled list. Santana was charged with eight hits and eight runs in 1 1/3 inning of work.

Los Angeles 2 – Miami 4Ricky Nolasco allowed two runs and nine hits in five innings of work for the Marlins. The Marlins pounded Dodgers pitching, for 5 doubles. Matt Kemp had three hits and two stolen bases for the Dodgers to go along with one RBI.

Washington – Arizona

Cincinnati 4 – Chicago 2 –  Ryan Ludwick hit a two-run double helping the Reds come from behind to beat the Chicago Cubs 4-2 Bronson Arroyo pitched eight innings for the Reds allowing just two runs on five hits. Aroldis Chapman recorded his 27th save of the season.

Colorado 3 – San Francisco 11Buster Posey hit a two-run home run to back up the pitching of Matt Cain and the Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 11-3 . Cain struck out six batters and walked one. Posey finished the day 2-for-4. The Giants beat up Rockies pitching for 13 hits
