Washington Nationals Acquire Cesar Izturis from Brewers

Washington Nationals NewsThe Washington Nationals acquired veteran infielder Cesar Izturis from the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Nationals are looking for infield depth with injuries to Mark DeRosa and All-Star shortstop Ian Desmond.

Desmond is not expected to return to the team until late August or early September, and DeRosa has a groin injury that could eventually landed him on the DL

The well traveled Izturis will be playing for his eighth major league team.

The 32-year-old Izturis is batting .235/.248/.333 this season with the Brewers. Izturis cleared waivers and was eligible for a trade.

Izturis will be a free agent after this season and is owed less than $350,000 of his $875,000 contract that he signed with the Brewers this past December.

Terms of the trade have not yet been disclosed.

The Nationals will have to clear a spot on the 40 man roster to accommodate the acquisition of Izturis.

Update :  The Nats designated left-hander Atahualpa Severino for assignment to make room for Izturis
