AL Recaps – Verlander Dominant In Win Over Yankees

Tigers NewsDETROIT –  Justin Verlander struck out 14 New York Yankees and threw 132 pitches in the process. Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera provided the offense and the Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees 7-2. Verlander gave up two unearned runs.

Yankees starter Ivan Nova gave up seven runs over 5 1/3 innings of work.

Nova gave up 11 hits and two home runs. His ERA over his last nine starts his 5.60.

Fielder now has five multi-hit games in his last six games played with three home runs in his last five games.  Cabrera’s home run was his 28th of the season.

Seattle 1  – Baltimore 3 – Nick Markakis hit  his 11th home run of the season and Chris Tillman allowed one run on five hits over 7 1/3 innings for the Orioles. Munenori Kawasaki went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Mariners

Minnesota 14 – Cleveland 3 –   Justin Morneau homered twice And had four RBI, Joe Mauer had three RBI, Josh Willingham hit his 29th home run of the season for the Twins . Scott Diamond pitched seven innings, allowing three runs

Texas 2  – Boston 9 –  The Red Sox used eight doubles three by Dustin Pedroia and two each by Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford  and once by Adrian Gonzalez. Aaron Cook pitched seven strong innings, and Yu Darvish struggled again for the Rangers

Kansas City 2  – Chicago 4  – Paul Konerko and Gordon Beckham backed up the pitching of Chris Sale for the White Sox. A.J. Pierzynski added two hits

Los Angeles 4 – Oakland 0 – Jered Weaver won his 15th game , struck out 9 , walked none. Mike Trout had 2 hits and 3 stolen bases .
