Brewers Recall Jean Segura to Replace Izturis

Earlier today the Milwaukee Brewers traded veteran infielder Cesar Izturis to the Washington Nationals and now we know at least part of the motivation behind the trade.

Jean Segura has been recalled from Double-A Huntsville to take the place of Izturis at shortstop for the Brewers.

Segura was a key component in the trade that sent RHP Zack Greinke to the Los Angeles Angels at the deadline.

Segura hit .294/.346/.404 for double-A Arkansas in the Angel system over 94 games.

Segura hit seven home runs and had 40 RBI, and stole 33 bases.

In eight games for Huntsville Segura hit .433. Segura was rated the #55 prospect by Baseball America prior to the 2012 season.
