NL Recaps – Cliff Lee Ignores Trade Talk and Beats Nationals

Philadelphia Phillies NewsWASHINGTON – Cliff Lee tossed seven shutout innings, and Jimmy Rollins hit an inside the park home run to help lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 8-0 victory over the Washington Nationals.

The Phillies and general manager Ruben tomorrow had a busy day, trading outfielders Shane Victorino to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Hunter Pence to the San Francisco Giants.

Lee had been the subject of trade talk and trade rumors himself, but managed to ignore all those distractions and turn in one of the best performances of his season.

Juan Pierre had three hits for the Phillies. John Mayberry Jr. played centerfield, and Domonic Brown, who is expected to play regularly in the outfield, had a hit as a pinch-hitter.

Lee through 103 pitches over seven innings, scattering five hits and striking out seven. He walked one.

Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg was tagged for six runs, on eight hits in four innings.
