Mets Matt Harvey Strikes Out 11 Diamondbacks in MLB Debut

Harvey struck out 11 batters over 5 1/3 innings and earned his first win 3-1 over the Diamondbacks.

Harvey became the first pitcher since 1900 to strike out more than 10 batters and have two hits in his first game.

Harvey became just the 13th pitcher in major league history to strike out at least 11 batters in his debut.

The record for strikeouts in a debut is 15, held by Karl Spooner of the Dodgers. Stephen Strasburg struck out 14 in his first start in 2010

Featuring a fastball in the mid-to high 90s and a slider, the Diamondback hitters looked lost.

Harvey through 106 pitches and 65 of those were for strikes. The win also helped the Mets to their second victory aagainst 11 losses since the All-Star break.
