Has Ryan Dempster Overplayed His Hand

Ryan Dempster NewsRyan Dempster wants to play on a contender, as long as that contender is the Los Angeles Dodgers. The now infamous deal that would have sent Dempster to the Braves in exchange for Randall Delgado appears to be but a memory.

Demptser invoked his privileges as a 1o/5 player and did not sign off on the deal.

Whether or not he was blindsided, or felt like the media overreacted on the announcement of the deal, this much is becoming clear.

Dempster may have overplayed his hand in trying to orchestrate a trade to the Dodgers. The Cubs offered to trade Dempster to the Dodgers, for right-hander Alan Webster.

The Dodgers resisted, to the point where the deal is stalled. The Dodgers now may be more interested in securing Matt Garza than Dempster.

So where does that leave Dempster if the Dodgers make a deal for Garza. There is always Braves, but the Braves have indicated they were moving on, and are said to be looking at other options.

Meanwhile, the Cubs are losing leverage in any deal, by the minute. Dempster, who was in a position of leverage, may have dealt it away with his demands.

Let us not forget, Dempster is 35 years old, and suddenly it appears the demand for his services may be drying up.
