J.P. Arencibia – Blue Jays Lose Another to DL

J.P. Arencibia Toronto Blue Jays NewsThe Toronto Blue Jays were hammered by the Oakland A’s last night 16-0. Starter Ricky Romero was a victim of the assault. Adding insult to injury,  Jay’s catcher J.P. Arencibia suffered a broken hand and will be out on the disabled list for at least six weeks.

Jeff Mathis and Yan Gomes will handle the catching responsibilities until Arencibia returns. With a starting rotation already ravaged by injuries, and now it’s number one catcher Arencibia, the Blue Jays must decide whether or not they will be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline.

While the market for starting pitching is strong, replacing catchers are often easy to find. With the move putting Arencibia on the DL, the Jays made a host of other moves including, optioning reliever Chad Beck to AAA Las Vegas, and recalling Joel Carreno and Evan Crawford
