Cubs Trade of Ryan Dempster to the Braves Needs Approval

Ryan Dempster trade newsEarlier today David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the Atlanta Braves were nearing a deal to acquire a starting pitcher in a trade.

As it turns out the Braves reached agreement on a trade with the Chicago Cubs for Ryan Dempster .

Dempster, 35, is in the final year of his contract with the Cubs and widely is considered one of the top starting pitchers available in the trade market. Dempster has no trade clause (10/5) in his contract, and would’ve had to approve a trade to the Braves.

Although widely reported that a deal was done, the Cubs do not have Dempster’s approval at this point.

The Braves believe that even though Dempster is in the final year of his contract they had a good shot at re-signing him.

Details on what the Cubs would receive from the Braves for Dempster are still coming in and we will update as soon as possible.

Randall Delgado name has been mentioned prominently as part of the deal, but at this point, we have no confirmation.
