NL Recaps – Cardinals Rally Late to Stun Brewers

MILWAUKEE –  The St. Louis Cardinals rallied for three runs against Milwaukee Brewers closer John Axford and beat the Brewers 3-2.Matt Holliday News

Axford gave up three hits and walked to in two thirds of an inning, throwing 36 pitches only half of them for strikes.

It was the sixth blown save of the season for Axford. Lance Lynn pitched well for the Cardinals giving up one run in seven innings of work and striking out 10.

However,  the Cardinals offense didn’t get going until the ninth and Jason Motte got the win. Matt Holliday had two RBI for the Cardinals.

Miami 5 – Washington 3 –  Hanley Ramirez hit a two-run homer in the Miami Marlins beat the Washington Nationals 5-3 .

Newly acquired Carlos Lee had two RBI. Carlos Zambrano gave up three runs and eight hits in six innings to get the victory for the Marlins.

Arizona 5 – Cincinnati 3 –  Miguel Montero drove in four runs in the Diamondbacks beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-3.

Earlier in the day the Reds announced that  Joey Votto would be out 3 to 4 weeks with minor knee surgery. Coming into the game the Reds had won six straight.
