According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers has told Justin Upton that there is some truth behind the trade rumors surrounding him.

Towers continued and told Upton, “you’ll be a part of the process. I’m not going to shock you with something,” he continued, “you should look at it in a good way that people like you, not just the Diamondbacks, but you’re perceived very, very well throughout baseball.”

Justin Upton is coming off a career season in 2011 when he hit for 31 homeruns, 88 RBIs, 21 stolen bags and boasted an OPS of .898.

Buster Olney of ESPN has listed the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Toronto Blue Jays as two possible landing spots for the Arizona outfielder.

Olney notes that the Blue Jays would be better off pursuing another arm rather than a bat, and that the Pirates, who are looking to bolster their offense, may not be willing to give up the major league ready talent that the Diamondbacks are looking for.

Other teams in the Upton picture include the Rangers, Braves, Royals and Tigers but they are considered to be less likely landing spots.

The Diamondbacks are looking for talent at 3rd base, shortstop and starting pitching in return for Upton.

The rumors that have been swirling around Upton since his statement about the fans finally have a sense of solid possibility.

After weeks there is a a certifiable statement from the GM that a trade for Upton is not out of the question.

Now that this has come out we can continue to expect more speculation until either Upton is dealt or the July 31st deadline passes.
